I keep the 701 at a small airfield close to the heart of Auckland City which is owned by Ports of Auckland. I have constructed a tiny tee hangar specially designed for the 701. The timber frame was precut at home and quickly nailed up and assembled on site. The frames are bolted together for ease of disassembly. The foundations are unique, there are none. The bottom plate of the frame is made from 4" X 4" treated timber so it it can sit directly on the ground without rotting. This is secured to the planet by driving Y section steel posts in as far as possible, and drilling through and securing them to the timber with coach screws. The rear door is a second hand alumunium garage door trimmed to size and my car fits in nicely when the plane is out. The front has 3 doors. The centre door is a full height door 3 metres wide. It is hinged at the bottom and lowers like a drawbridge on an olde world castle. It has got 3 planks running from top to bottom; 1 each for the main wheels and 1 for the nose wheel. The planks are also the door frame. On either side of this door are the "wing" doors. Look at the photos to see how they work. If you want the plans send me US$10.00 check and I will mail them back. Specify if you want the feet and inches version or the metric version.
There is no electricity to the hangar and I use solar power to operate a burglar alarm which sets off a siren plus rings my cellphone.
